- Mozambique Island - (Ilha de Moçambique
- commonly called 'Ilha') Mozambique Island is a small piece of
land about 3 kilometres (2 miles) off the mainland, and linked
by a bridge. Once the capital of Portugal's East African colony,
the island is now known for its array of mosques and churches
and its Hindu temple. This World Heritage Site is a perfect example
of an ancient fortified city and a gem of architectural and historical
importance.
- Beira - The second largest city in Mozambique
and one of Southern Africa's oldest cities, A major port and rail
terminus Beira is a bustling city, and great fun to explore. Situated
in the heart of the city is the Praça (main square),
which is surrounded by shops and markets.
- Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park - The establishment
of a 35 00 000-hectare Park, which will span over South Africa's
Kruger National Park, Mozambique's Limpopo National Park and the
Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe is set to become Africa's
finest game reserve and a sanctuary for thousands of animals.
- Off the Beaten Track - For the adventurous,
take the road less travelled and explore Mozambique like never
before. Southern Mozambique is served by a single coastal road
which, after crossing the Save River, veers deep into the interior
emerging at Inchope some 200 kilometres from the port city of
Beira. Carry on northwards and suddenly you're in big game country.
Turn into Gorongosa National Park to view the large mammals which
are slowly re-populating the area, as well as around 500 bird
species. Climb misty Mount Gorongosa in search of rare birds and
then cross the mighty Zambezi River via a long bridge to the hot
springs of Morrumbala Mountain. Explore the caves of Mont Namúli
near picturesque Gurúè, travel the scenic Nampula
Cuamba road, and then head straight north to Niassa Game Reserve,
which has been called 'Africa's last paradise'.
